Alpaca Fiber was once reserved only for Incan Royalty. It is no wonder
the kings of long ago revered this luxurious fiber. It is warmer, softer
and stronger than sheep’s wool and comes in over 20 natural colors.
Alpaca fiber is often compared to cashmere. Garments made of alpaca can
be worn against the skin by most as it is lanolin free and has little if
any prickle factor. Today, alpaca fiber is crafted into a many different
types of garments and products, and is treasured by consumers
internationally.
In Alaska we harvest our alpaca fiber each May. We shear either with electric or hand shears depending on the animal. The fiber shorn is 3-5” long. Each alpaca’s total fiber yield ranges between 3-12#. Having clean alpaca fiber to sell or make into products is very important to us. We sweep our barns daily, keep our pastures clean and shear most of our alpacas annually. We have raw fiber, and clean, carded fiber available to purchase. Please contact us for colors and availability. Arctic Sun Alpacas also has alpaca products for sale. About Arctic Sun
